Downloading

Start the installation by downloading the software from the SMART website: SMART Notebook downloads page

These instructions are for installing on a single computer. Instructions for deployments (multiple installations) of SMART Notebook and related software are provided later in this course.

  1. Go to smarttech.com/education/products/smart-notebook/notebook-download-form.

  2. Fill in the required form.

  3. Select the operating system.

  4. Click download and save the file to a temporary location.

  5. Double-click the downloaded installer file to start the installation wizard.

  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

    Tip 

    Windows operating systems only

    If you don’t have a subscription and do not want to start a trial of SMART Notebook Plus features, select the Disable trial offer and upgrade notifications option on the final installation screen. This will prevent SMART Notebook from asking for activation when the program starts and will prevent notifications asking users to upgrade.

Installing SMART Notebook also installs the following SMART software and tools:

SMART Lesson Activity Toolkit

A package of images and Notebook pages teachers can use to build their own interactive activities.

SMART Product Update (SPU)

A tool for updating all SMART software installed on the computer.

SMART Uninstaller

A tool for uninstalling SMART software.

SMART Ink plugin for Adobe Acrobat Reader

Enables you to use SMART Ink to annotate PDF files in Adobe Acrobat Reader (Windows only).

SMART Ink Document Viewer

A PDF file viewer designed and optimized to work with SMART Ink.

SMART System Menu

A menu from which you can access many functions and tools:

  • Launch SMART Notebook, SMART Recorder, screen shade, spotlight, and so on.

  • Launch SMART settings, where you can manage SMART Ink preferences, orient or align a connected SMART Board interactive product, find troubleshooting tools, and so on.

  • Launch SPU to check for and install updates for any SMART software installed on the computer.
